Responsibilities:

  • CFD Simulations: Develop and run CFD models to simulate fluid flow, sediment transport, and effluent/contaminant dispersion in natural and engineered water systems in riverine and coastal environments. Analyze CFD results and provide insights and recommendations for design improvements and project feasibility.
  • Hydraulic Design: Assist in the design and optimization of hydraulic structures such as dams, spillways, fishways, intakes, outfalls, and channels using CFD tools. Ensure designs and analyses comply with relevant environmental regulations and standards.
  • River Engineering: Understanding of fluvial scour, erosion, and deposition processes, and mitigation thereof.  Floodplain simulation and mapping.
  • Field Work: Conduct field investigations and data collection to support CFD model development and validation.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize CFD software such as ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, and other relevant tools for simulations and analysis.
  • Project Execution: Manage hydrotechnical projects, including planning, budgeting, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
  • Technical Leadership: Support the development and growth of the CFD team nationally and engage with in-house CFD experts internationally to deliver services to clients and ensure seamless project delivery.  Provide technical guidance, oversight, and mentorship to less experienced team and group members. Lead less experienced staff through the methodologies of hydrotechnical engineering and computational fluid dynamics solution development.
  • Business Development: Position Mott MacDonald to have advanced knowledge of and receive Requests for Proposal; lead proposal efforts; secure project assignments and manage projects and technical teams.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or a related field with a focus on fluid dynamics.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the province of BC is required. Registration in additional locations would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in hydrotechnical engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • Proficiency in CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM). Experience with advanced CFD techniques such as turbulence modeling, multiphase flow, and heat transfer would be a definite asset.

  • An ability to build relationships, and contribute to and lead multidisciplinary project-based teams.
