Responsibilities:
- Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs applications software, and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
- Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
- Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls
- Prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
- Ensures software standards are met.
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
- Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
- Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of and experience with shipboard system interfaces, HM&E system components, and operational characteristics necessary for control system software design and integration is desired and beneficial
- Advanced knowledge and experience with MS Access, MySQL, MariaDB, Visual Basic, and Python are beneficial
- Strong communication skills are necessary to effectively collaborate with other Newport News Shipbuilding engineering groups cognizant of HM&E systems integrated into the shipboard control system software.
